Braune Zwerge

  • Percentage of Braune Zwerge within 98.5 lichtjahre: 12.24 % (1165 from 9520 stars)
  • Average masse of Braune Zwerge: 1.2-8.0% solar mass
  • Average radius of Braune Zwerge: 9-11% solar radius
  • Average temperatur of Braune Zwerge: 600-2500 K

Image: Patchy water clouds and chemical changes observed on brown dwarf WISE 0855
WISE 0855 represents the coldest known brown dwarf, an object too large to be a planet but too small to sustain the nuclear fusion that powers stars. With a temperature of roughly 265 Kelvin, it is cold enough to host complex atmospheric phenomena similar to those seen on gas giant planets in our solar system. Observations reveal that this object is not uniform but features patchy water clouds distributed throughout its atmosphere, which influence its light patterns over time. To study this, ...

Image: Massive brown dwarf HD 203771 b confirmed in eccentric orbit around orange dwarf
Massive brown dwarf HD 203771 b confirmed in an eccentric orbit around an orange dwarf star. New mass measurements place the companion at approximately 70 times the mass of Jupiter, revealing insights into how brown dwarfs migrate inward over time....

Image: Silicate clouds and gaseous silicon monoxide identified in three early L-dwarf objects
Analysis of three early L-dwarfs, HD 89744 B, Gliese 1048 B, and LSPM J0632+5053 B, reveals gaseous silicon monoxide and silicate clouds in their atmospheres. JWST data confirms these mineral clouds form as silicon gas condenses, mimicking processes in giant planets....

Image: Exoplanet candidate PALTA-1 b found orbiting a nearby ultracool dwarf
A new exoplanet candidate, PALTA-1 b, has been identified orbiting the nearby ultracool dwarf star DENIS-P J1253108-570924. The planet, which has a mass roughly equivalent to a fraction of Jupiter, was found after eight years of precise positional monitoring....

Image: Radio aurora in LSPM J0036+1821 shows Jupiter-like magnetic activity
Radio observations of the L3.5 dwarf LSPM J0036+1821 reveal Jupiter-like auroral activity. The star shows a 3.08-hour rotation period and persistent magnetic pulses driven by electron interactions in its magnetosphere....
